| “I Will Follow the Rules” Learning to follow directions can be tough for most of us but if you have special needs it can be even harder. What are the rules, do we remember them, do we react before we think. These are all common issues in learning to follow rules. There are many strategies available to help that person make good choices throughout the day. Using schedule systems to help them understand what is expected of them, setting up a visual schedule of “House Rules” they can look at when cued to appropriate behavior, and social stories. Providing a visual cue such as a social story brings a concrete concept to the special needs person to help him understand why, how and what is expected of him to make good choices throughout the day. Learning to follow rules is an important part of gaining independence and self worth in life and something we all need to understand to be successful in life. Social stories are a great way to give that special needs person the tools they need to do just that. This book can be used over and over again to teach your special needs child more appropriate strategies for dealing with things going on in their environment. Each book is made with double folded 110 cardstock, laminated to keep it nice, and bound for ease in use. Please check out our store for a more detailed description of each book and the variety of formats (PDF files/CD-roms) we offer.
What is a Social Story Social Story Books are tools for teaching social skills to children with autism and related disabilities. Social stories provide an individual with accurate information about those situations they may find difficult or confusing. Each situation is described in detail and focus is given to key points: the important social cues, the events and reactions the individual might expect to occur in the situation, the actions and reactions that might be expected of them, and why. The goal of our stories; to increase the individual’s understanding, make them more comfortable, and suggest some appropriate responses for the situation in question.
