“Tantrums Don’t Make My Problems Go Away” The word "no" is a tough word for many of us but especially for people with special needs. The word “no” does not translate to an individual with special needs so when you tell them, “Don’t ______ (jump on the bed)” they see, “Jump on the bed”. It’s important to remember that we must replace the behavior we “don’t” want with one we do such as, “sit on the bed.” Visual cues are a great way to help an individual understand what is expected of this and give them an appropriate way to express how they feel without engaging in tantrum behavior. This social story helps the person understand more appropriate ways to react to request and things in their life they don't like. In essence what can they do instead of engaging in tantrum behavior? It's a great tool for teaching appropriate social interactions. This book can be used over and over again to teach your special needs child more appropriate strategies for dealing with things going on in their environment. Each book is made with double folded 110 cardstock, laminated to keep it nice, and bound for ease in use. Please check out our store for a more detailed description of each book and the variety of formats (PDF files/CD-roms) we offer. What is a Social Story Social Story Books are tools for teaching social skills to children with autism and related disabilities. Social stories provide an individual with accurate information about those situations they may find difficult or confusing. Each situation is described in detail and focus is given to key points: the important social cues, the events and reactions the individual might expect to occur in the situation, the actions and reactions that might be expected of them, and why. The goal of our stories; to increase the individual’s understanding, make them more comfortable, and suggest some appropriate responses for the situation in question.
